The University of Sarajevo Promoted 61 Doctors of Sciences and Arts
The promotion of University of Sarajevo Doctors of Sciences and Arts was held on 17 December 2020 in the University of Sarajevo Ceremonial Hall (Obala Kulina bana 7/II), in compliance with all applicable epidemiological protection measures.
Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector, Vice-Rectors of the University of Sarajevo and Deans promoted 61 candidates into Doctors of Sciences and Arts.
“In the moments when we celebrate this very important event, with the application of special precautions for coronavirus, we must be proud of our doctoral students who with their sacrifice and hard work achieved the highest academic title that brings joy, enthusiasm and desire for a better tomorrow bears great responsibility” said Rector Škrijelj.
Congratulating the candidates on this exceptional life and academic achievement, and wishing them success in their work professionally and personally, Rector Škrijelj said: “Dear doctoral students, as leaders of tomorrow, you must never allow your knowledge to be instrumentalized or put into the service of some retrograde ideas and ideologies, which has not been such a rare case in the recent history of mankind, even in our country. The basic principle of responsibility in science, research and scientific and technological achievements is and must be that we must not do everything we can, because only in that way will we preserve the postulates of our profession.”
Today's promotion of 61 candidates into doctors of sciences/arts is a kind of confirmation that the University of Sarajevo will continue to be committed to the production of modern doctoral studies that follow trends in Europe and the world.
Aiming towards the knowledge society, the University of Sarajevo promoted: 7 candidates into doctors of pharmaceutical sciences, 6 candidates into technical and economic sciences, 5 candidates into political, Islamic and medical sciences, 3 candidates into doctors of educational, agricultural sciences and mathematical sciences, 2 candidates into historical, linguistic, legal, geographical and veterinary sciences, and 1 candidate into doctors of criminalistics, security, criminology, administrative, social, music, chemical and biological sciences.
Amra Banda, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, addressed on behalf of the promoted doctors of science and arts of the University of Sarajevo, emphasizing that each doctoral dissertation is the result of dedicated scientific research and that it presented a great scientific and professional challenge for each candidate.
“Acquired doctorates are just the beginning of our scientific and academic path. I believe that we will work dedicatedly to promote science and professional development, because the best strategy and the greatest strength in building the state and society are knowledge and academic excellence. Our duty and our task are to contribute to the development and strengthening of the University of Sarajevo, and with our efforts and work to ensure a better future for the entire community“ said Dr. Amra Banda.
