Homo Digitalis Study Visit on Interdisciplinary Digital Education Successfully Completed
The Homo Digitalis consortium, led by LOGOS University College, in collaboration with Erasmus+ partners across the West Balkans, recently concluded a Homo Digitalis Study Visit at the Leibniz-Institute for Educational Media (GEI) in Germany. This visit, a significant part of the project "Bridging the Digital Humanities and Educational Media Divide in the West Balkans," was held on 6-7 November 2024 and combined both observational study and practical training.
Focus and Aims
The study visit was designed to deepen participants' understanding of interdisciplinary approaches to digital education. Participants learned how collaborative groups work to develop and refine user-friendly digital educational resources—knowledge critical for bridging gaps between traditional humanities education and digital tools in the West Balkans.
Key Activities
During the two-day event, participants engaged in:
- Zwischentöne Training led by Imke Rath, focusing on digital educational resources in the humanities.
- Research Library and GLOTREC Project Presentations by Kathrin Henne, highlighting tools and strategies for digital resource integration in teaching.
- Usability Labs and Participatory Prototyping facilitated by Ernesto W. De Luca and Sabine Wehnert, where participants observed and practised methods to improve user experience in digital tools.
Outcomes
The study visit equipped educators with strategies to incorporate user-centred design into digital curricula, fostering a more accessible and impactful digital humanities education. By combining digital tools with human-centred design, this initiative represents a pivotal step in enhancing interdisciplinary education and strengthening digital competencies among educators.
Many thanks to the activity's host, Prof. Ernesto De Luca, the Leibniz-Institute for Educational Media / Georg Eckert Institute and to all participants for making this study visit an inspiring and valuable experience. We look forward to furthering these insights and continuing our journey towards innovative digital education.
