At the University of Sarajevo, a kick-off meeting of the beginning of the implementation of the Horizon Europe program STECCI project held

A STECCI project - Stone Monument Ensambles and the Climate Change Impact from the Horizon Europe program kick-off meeting is held on 21 and 22 September 2023 at the University of Sarajevo.

The meeting was opened with a series of welcomes in which the importance of this project for the protection of climate change was promoted, and gathered key project participants from various institutions and organizations, and marked the official start of climate change on stone monuments.

UNSA Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj said that it is an exceptional achievement of the University of Sarajevo, especially the Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo.

“This is a very important moment, given the fact that this is the first research project within the Horizon of the Institution from Bosnia and Herzegovina,” pointed out Rector Škrijelj that the project is a multidisciplinary nature, and to combine expertise In the field of conservation, science on the preservation of cultural heritage, climatology, social and humanities, and creative industries. “This approach enables us to work together on cultural heritage in Europe, and especially stećak tombstones, which are the symbol of our history and identity,” further he added.

Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Sarajevo Dean, Prof. Dr. Nusret Drešković, the project coordinator, stated that the main goal of the Project, create innovative and sustainable strategies in the field of protection of the sacral cultural and historical heritage) from the influence of climate change and consequential environment and anthropogenic threats.

“STECCI Project will use the most modern research equipment, digital technologies, the latest approaches to conservation practice to achieve the goals set out, which will be applicable and outside Europe,” pointed out Dekan Drešković.

The meeting is also attended by project associates from the Executive Agency for the European Commission Exhibition Agency, Ms. Melpomena Vyzik and Mrs. Diana Lublond-Muresan. Mrs. Vyzika also addressed the present with the congratulations to the University of Sarajevo and the project team on the excellent project application, which is rated with a maximum number of points, and the project that will contribute to the protection of cultural heritage not only in the EU.

As part of the initial meeting, the Project of Stecci was presented with the review of the objectives and expected results. After that, the University of Sarajevo, as a project coordinator, has presented its role within the project bankruptcy, while other partners - Heritage Malta (Malta), University of Donja Gorica), Universitaet Fur Angewandte Kunst (Wien, Austria) , Stiftung Preussischer Kulturbesitz (Germany), Zentrum Für Soziale Innovation GmbH, University of Split, Art Academy (Croatia), Faculty of Science, University of Novi Sad (Serbia) and the Mines-Telecom Institute (France) presented its roles in the project through short presentations.

In the second part of the meeting, the focus was on reporting and financial planning of the project. In addition, the project management structure and project management plan (PMP) was presented. The University of Sarajevo (UNSA) also presented an ethical work package and presented members of the Project Advisory Committee.

In the final part of the meeting, the focus was on the plan of dissemination and communications, and the official website of the Stecci project and the first promotional video is presented.
