Textbook “Teachers as digital mentors: support in working with children and youth in the digital environment” promoted

Promotion of the textbook “Teachers as digital mentors: support in working with children and youth in the digital environment” by Emina Dedić Bukvić and Mirela Šuman, was held on Tuesday, 5 October 2021 in the Ceremonial Hall of the University of Sarajevo.

This university textbook is a valuable contribution to modern educational work in which the new digital age poses new challenges to teachers and opportunities to strengthen digital competencies.

Attendees were greeted by Prof. Dr. Dušanka Bošković, University of Sarajevo Vice-Rector for Quality, emphasizing that we are witnessing that day by day the world is increasingly globalized and interconnected digitally, with information and communication technology playing an increasingly important role in our daily lives. At today's promotion, Prof. Dr. Senada Dizdar, Prof. Dr. Mila Beljanski and Doz. Dr. Sandra Bjelan-Guska spoke about the book.

One of the authors, Mr. Sci. Mirela Šuman said in a statement for the media, out that this textbook did not provide solutions, but provides an upgrade for all teachers to develop their digital competencies and to direct them in the digital space in a way that they can transfer knowledge and experience to students. “The book offers guidelines and tools on how teachers, professors and students can creatively develop skills, go beyond the given units and at the same time adequately acquire knowledge,” said the author Mirela Šuman.

Textbook author, Doz. Dr. Emina Dedić Bukvić emphasized that nowadays it is very important to improve study programs for teacher education and that is why it is crucial to develop digital media information literacy, i.e. the competence of teachers to work in a digital environment with students. Author Dr. Dedić Bukvić also states that the textbook is intended for future teachers - for students in teacher education programs, but also for teachers who work in practice.
