Nine professors emeriti of the University of Sarajevo promoted
The ceremonial promotion of the professors emeriti of the University of Sarajevo was organized on 22 December 2021, as part of the Ceremonial December Days, on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the University of Sarajevo.
Words of welcome to the audience were sent by Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector, emphasizing that a special place in the history of our university has professors emeritus who have earned this honorary title for their work and reputation. “This year, according to the decision of the Senate of the University of Sarajevo, the honorary title of professor emeritus was awarded to eight of our eminent retired professors and one academic who have spent most of their working life at the University. Educating many generations of young people, these professors have achieved a significant scientific work, recognized and recognizable not only in the field, but in the entire academic community and the general public. With their scientific contribution, they marked the time in which they worked, and in the best way publicly affirmed their profession and gave a lasting stamp in the history of the development of the University,” said Rector Škrijelj.
Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić stated that it is a pleasure to see that professors who have built their lives into the fortress of knowledge, ie the University of Sarajevo, can give, want to give and contribute to the building of our academic community and society as a whole. Science, higher education and young KS openly to their ideas and to expect them, and added: "I hope that together we will continue to build first the University of Sarajevo, and then the entire academic community of Bosnia and Herzegovina."
The honorary title of Professor Emeritus is awarded to retired full professors who have continuously contributed to the advancement and development of scientific research and artistic research, development and progress of the University of Sarajevo, faculties and academies, as well as the teaching process at the University, and who have gained an international reputation.
University of Sarajevo Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj promoted the following professors emeriti:
- Academician Dr. Muris Čičić, full member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of BiH and retired full professor at the Faculty of Economics, University of Sarajevo
- Prof. Dr. Mehmed Jahić, retired full professor at the Faculty of Economics, University of Sarajevo
- Prof. Dr. Izet Beridan, retired full professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo
- Prof. Dr. Smail Čekić, retired full professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo
- Prof. Dr. Adlija Čaušević, retired full professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sarajevo
- Prof. Dr. Mirza Dilić, retired full professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Sarajevo
- Prof. Dr. Izet Mašić, retired full professor at the Medical Faculty of the University of Sarajevo
- Prof. Dr. Hamid Čustović, retired full professor at the Faculty of Agriculture and Food, Sciences, University of Sarajevo
- Prof. Dr. Velija Katica, retired full professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Sarajevo
On behalf of the promoted professors emeritus, professor emeritus Dr. Adlija Čaušević addressed the attendees “We experience this solemn moment as the crown of our long-term work at the University of Sarajevo, which has obviously been noticed in the past forty years or so, worthy of your attention, this promotion and this part. On behalf of all of us, I sincerely thank you.” She also emphasized that the solemn act of promotion of Professor Emeritus sends a message to all participants in the teaching process, and the general academic, scientific and social public to carefully and devotedly monitor the work of each member and his contribution in the field of academic, scientific, pedagogical, social and especially important, as Professor Čaušević says, human excellence and well-being, and that this work and excellence be recognized, respected and publicly promoted.
This solemn moment was completed by the academic sculptor Adis Lukač, who received his master's degree from the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Sarajevo, Department of Sculpture. He is the author of significant works such as the monument to the first Bosnian king Tvrtko I Kotromanić in Tuzla, the bust of the national hero Ivan Goran Kovačić in Sarajevo, the Hasanaginica relief set in the National Theater in Sarajevo and the monument to the great Bosnian basketball player Mirza Delibašić.
As part of the ceremony, the prima donna of the Sarajevo Opera, Professor Adema Pljevljak-Krehić, and pianist Maja Ačkar-Zlatarević, pianist, performed solo songs by Cvjetko Rihtman “Turn Through the Đulbašča” and Milan Prebanda “In the Storm.”
The 72nd anniversary of the University of Sarajevo was marked by the Ceremonial Promotion of 4,868 BA and MA graduates, the promotion of 42 doctors of science, the Exhibition of Master's Theses of the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Sarajevo, seven concerts of the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo and today's Ceremonial Promotion of 9 Emeritus Professors.
