The Gazi Husrev-bey's Library in Sarajevo’s 482nd Anniversary
On January 15, 2019, Sarajevo will host a ceremony marking the Gazi Husrev-bey's Library in Sarajevo’s Day and celebrating its 482nd Anniversary.
In this year's ceremony, the promotion of the reference book “The Lexicon of Bosniak Ulema” will be held, which was created as a result of the long-running project of the Library in the realization of Ahmed Mehmedović. The promoters will be: academician Rešid Hafizović, Prof. Dr. Ismet Bušatlić and Ahmed Mehmedović.
Inspired by the long-standing experience and demand by domestic and foreign users and researchers for scholars and works of people from our area, the idea is to use all the existing Library resources and collect their names in one place. This is how the “Lexicon of Bosniak Ulema” was created, which brought together the names, biographies and bibliographies of Bosniaks who had achieved visible scientific, cultural, religious or any other success in their time and space. “The Lexicon of Bosniak Ulema” includes biographies of Bosniak alims from 16th to 21st centuries that have made a significant contribution to various fields of activity, such as literature, history, linguistics, philosophy, law, mathematics and astronomy, and holders of important positions in society.
As part of the ceremony, plaques will be given to specific institutions and individuals for their support and assistance in the work of the Gazi Husrev-bey's Library.
