Roundtable “Sixty Years of the Elements of structural syntax by Lucien Tesnière” Held
On 4 December 2019, at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo, a roundtable “Sixty Years of the Elements of structural syntax by Lucien Tesnière” was held. The event was organized by the Department of Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian Language, Faculty of Philosophy.
The roundtable participants were: Dr. Meliha Hrustić (Recepcija Tesnièreova učenja u Njemačkoj – poimanje valentnosti kod G. Helbiga i U. Engela), Dr. Lejla Tekešinović (Nacrt jedne strukturalne sintakse: junkcija), Azra Hodžić-Čavkić, MA (Glagolska valencija u idiomskim skupinama), Dr. Halid Bulić (Značaj učenja Luciena Tesnièrea i njegov odjek u bosnistici).
Marking the sixtieth anniversary of publishing the book Elements of structural syntax roundtable organization was supported by Professor Timothy John Osborne of Zhejiang University in China, one of the English language translators of the book. He provided his text on his own experience of translating the book and new insights and insights he gained during translation.
The French linguist Lucien Tesnière (1893-1954) is one of the most influential syntaxists of the 20th century. In linguistics he was most remembered as the author of Éléments de syntaxe structural (Elements of structural syntax) and the originator of dependency grammar, an influential direction in the study of syntax.
