University of Sarajevo Press Release upon Pronouncing the Verdict in the case against Radovan Karadžić

Today, the convicted verdict in the Radovan Karadzic case is accepted by the University of Sarajevo deems the sentencing of Radovan Karadžić today as expected for the crimes committed. This sentencing sent a clear message that no one can commit crimes, persecutions, murders or genocide, and remain unpunished. The verdict is also a warning to all deniers of the most serious crimes against humanity and international law, including genocide, and to those glorifying the perpetrators that the international community will not tolerate the same or similar crimes.
The fact that a number of documents, including over 11,000 pieces of evidence, including several hundred witnesses, have been presented during the conduct of this proceedings, sufficiently speaks of the complexity of the proceedings itself, which started with the indictment of 24 July 1995. The Second Instance Panel has demonstrated to the world public by this rulng that it is being guided by legal facts and pronounces judgments in accordance with international law.
We hope that this judgment will ultimately bring at least a partial peace to the victims' families, and that our society will restore confidence in law and justice, and be a prerequisite for accelerating the process of reconciliation.
