Promoted monograph "University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Architecture 1949-2024: 75 years of architect education in Bosnia and Herzegovina"
As part of the program of activities marking the 75th Anniversary of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Sarajevo, on 22 May 2024, the promotion of the first monographic edition entitled “University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Architecture 1949-2024: 75 years of educating architects in Bosnia and Herzegovina” took place. In this publication, for the first time, key events, personalities, and academic and professional activities that marked the development of the Faculty from its foundation to the present are presented in a comprehensive way.
The first monograph of the faculty was presented by Prof. Dr. Erdin Salihović, Dean and member of the editorial board and Vice Dean, Prof. Dr. Nermina Zagora, Vice-Dean for Research and Chief editor, and Prof. Dr. Aida Abadžić-Hodžić, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo, Amir Vuk Zec, founder of architectural studio "ZEC", member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of BiH and alumni, Faruk Širbegović, owner of the company Širbegović Inžinjering, an alumnus, and the moderator was Assoc. Dr. Amela Šljivić. Academician Nikola Bašić also addressed the audience and shared with the audience his memories of the period of studying and working as an assistant at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Sarajevo.
The structure of this monographic work consists of four chapters, on 353 pages of bilingual text, illustrated with archival and author's photos and illustrations. The first chapter takes readers through the rich history of the Faculty from its foundation to the end of the 20th century, while the second chapter focuses on the recent past and present, from the beginning of the new millennium to the present day. The third chapter deals with the teaching and scientific areas of the Faculty and contains a chronological presentation of short biographies of former professors, associates and associates who made a key contribution to the development of the Faculty in the past. The fourth chapter, in the form of intermezzo pages, brings statements by alumni, as quotes from former students, associates and professors of the Faculty, which shed light on the identity of the Faculty and provide a critical review of its development through the various phases of the Faculty's development. This monograph was conceived with the aim of serving as a landmark and a reminder of the heritage from which future generations of architects will draw inspiration for further improvement and development of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Sarajevo.
