Northwest Pedagogical University Delegation Visit

An annual meeting of the Confucius Institute’s Council at the University of Sarajevo was held at the University of Sarajevo on Friday, 21 December 2018. The attendants were: Northwestern Pedagogical University representatives: Prof. Dr. Liu Zhongkui, Rector, Mr. Xiaohui Quan, International Cooperation Office Director, and Mrs. Mei Sun, Office for International Cooperation and Exchange; University of Sarajevo representatives: Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Rector, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Elvir Čizmić, Vice-Rector for Finances, and Mrs. Jasna Bošnjović, International Cooperation Department Head; Confucius Institute at the University of Sarajevo representatives: Messrs. La Weixin and Mr. Miroslav Živanović.
A report on the current activities and results achieved by the Confucius Institute, University of Sarajevo in 2018 were discussed at this annual meeting, as well as guidelines for future Institute activities. The greater involvement of University of Sarajevo students as many as possible in the programs and courses intended for learning the Chinese language was highlighted as a key priority for any future action. Additionally, the Confucius Institute will be further engaged in the field of academic cooperation and exchange and the promotion of scholarship programs for students and university staff. Cultural cooperation remains an area of exceptional importance, underlining the possible influence that the Confucius Institute, through the promotion of cultural understanding, can have on the development and improvement of economic cooperation between the People's Republic of China and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It was emphasized that the learning of the Chinese language as well as the organization of Chinese cultural events will contribute to the development of the “One Belt, One Way” initiative. Further steps of comprehensive cooperation, such as teaching and courses in the Chinese language, and the introduction of the Chinese language as an elective subject at the Faculty of Philosophy have also been agreed.
The joint conclusion of the delegations is that Confucius Institute, University of Sarajevo is already and will continue to be a significant factor in building solid and friendly relations between the two countries.
