The 8th Rector's Forum of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans | 4th EUTOPIA MORE Western Balkans workshop aimed at funding research activities
On 30 and 31 May, the University of Sarajevo hosted the 8th Rector’s Forum of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans. This regional cooperation was started several years ago, and during the past years, universities in Rijeka, Belgrade and Ljubljana have worked together to ensure the successful operation of the Rector's Forum of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans as a key network of regional higher education. The goal of the Rector's Forum of Southeastern Europe and the Western Balkans is to strengthen cooperation between universities in Southeastern Europe and the Western Balkans in the fields of education, research and innovation.
The 8th Rector's Forum of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans brought together 54 representatives from 21 institutions, including 8 Rectors and 12 Vice-Rectors.
The second day of the 8th Rector's Forum of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans was dedicated to the 4th Eutopia MoreWestern Balkans workshop aimed at financing research activities at the international, state and institutional level.
During the workshop, representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Slovenia, University of Sarajevo, University of Belgrade, University of Rijeka, Babeș-Bolyai University and University of Ljubljana presented examples of research funding, practices and challenges they face. The University of Ljubljana organizes various activities, events and workshops on current topics within the framework of Eutopia More, the European Association of Universities, and the Rector's Forum of Southeastern Europe and the Western Balkans, based at the University of Ljubljana.
Founded in 2018, the Rector's Forum of Southeastern Europe and the Western Balkans brings together 31 universities from the region. The Rector's Forum of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans is dedicated to improving cooperation between universities and strengthening the voice of academic institutions in this part of Europe, solving key issues, promoting European policy in higher education and research within the region, exchanging good practices, preparing joint projects, harmonizing legislation, encouraging exchange of staff and students, etc. It is one of the initiatives that came out of the Berlin process, ideas for better integration of Southeast Europe. Its aim is to promote European policies in science and higher education, the exchange of good practices, and the strengthening of cooperation on joint projects.
University of Rijeka Rector, Prof. Dr Snježana Prijić Samaržija, chairs the Rector's Forum of Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans. She has been elected for the period from 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2025.
