PEDAGOGICAL TRIPTYCH on the occasion of 60th Anniversary of the Department of Pedagogy, UNSA Faculty of Philosophy
The Department of Pedagogy at the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Philosophy celebrated its 60th anniversary in the UNSA Rectorate’s Ceremonial Hall on Thursday, 7 December 2023.
The event named “PEDAGOGICAL TRIPTYCH” started with the Formal Academy where the guests were addressed by Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Minka Džanko, Vice-Dean for Research and International Cooperation, UNSA Faculty of Philosophy UNSA, academician Prof. Dr. Mladen Bevanda, academician Prof. Dr.. Adila Pašalić Kreso and Prof. Dr. Hašim Muminović, and Prof. Dr. Lejla Osmić as the head of the Department and moderator.
Rector Škrijelj pointed out that this solemn occasion is not only an occasion for celebration, but also an opportunity to reflect on the path the Department has taken so far and to express gratitude to all those who have contributed to the development of pedagogy at the University of Sarajevo and in Bosnian society.
“Our Department of Pedagogy, throughout the six decades of its existence, has dedicatedly worked on the development of pedagogical thought and practice, the education of generations of pedagogues and the study of essential issues that shape our educational system,” stressed Rector Škrijelj. He also added that the Department of Pedagogy is not only the central place where future pedagogues are educated, but also the epicenter of innovation in various areas important for our society, primarily in the field of upbringing and education. “He has generated experts who are recognized not only in Bosnian society, but also much more widely, which confirms the relevance and quality of the education he provides. Their work is not limited to the classroom; they are mentors, researchers, scientists and catalysts of change in society. The development of our society, upbringing and education, pedagogic theories and practices directly depends on him”, said Rector Škrijelj, and emphasized that the Department of Pedagogy is a strong and important department at the University of Sarajevo, whose reputation among the professional and scientific public is constantly growing.
UNSA Faculty of Philosophy Vice-Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Minka Džanko emphasized the immense importance the Department of Pedagogy has had since its foundation until today. “Its role in education is invaluable. The pedagogical group of subjects of this department is an integral part of the study programs of the teaching orientation, not only of the Faculty of Philosophy, but also of numerous members of the University”, said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Džanko. She emphasized that what makes this Department special is the agility and innovation of its members, and added that since the introduction of bologna, the Department of Pedagogy has produced over 1,020 students, which confirms the exceptional quality of the program.
Prof. Dr. Lejla Osmić, head of the Department of Pedagogy, recalled the continuity of the Department's development, which indicates its commitment to future generations of teachers and associates, male and female students. “Year after year, he tackles numerous challenges of a constantly changing society and promotes the teaching profession and science with equal dignity. From its establishment until today, it has undergone various transformations, yet managed to maintain its authenticity by nurturing its reputation among the professional and scientific public. “This living institution was actually represented and is represented by teachers and associates who contribute to its survival with their dedication,” stated Prof. Dr. Osmić. She reminded that many of them are not with us today, but that they are woven into the departmental battle and pulsate the course of its development. “One of them is Professor Mujo Slatina, a longtime professor at the University of Sarajevo, who was supposed to stand here at the lectern today and address us. “Unfortunately, he left us on 1 December 2023,” said Professor Osmić, recalling the educational path, scientific research work and contribution of Professor Slatina, and paid tribute to the doyen of pedagogy in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond.
After the Formal Academy, a Round Table entitled “Educators Today: Challenges and Opportunities” was held. Moderator Prof. Dr. Snježana Šušnjara discussed this important topic with pedagogues working in different workplaces. They were: Azra Jasika, Mahira Poljak, Adnan Aliladić, Antonio Topalović, Amina Rizvan Habul and Alma Hadžić.
The celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Department of Pedagogy continued with a panel discussion: Art and Pedagogy. The panel moderators had a special honor and pleasure - Prof. Dr. Amir Pušina and Prof. Dr. Sandra Bjelan as they hosted Tamara Karača Beljak, Mirza Redžepagić, Arma Tanović Branković, Esmira Salihovića, Samra Mlinar Mandić and Haris Cerić in the panel.
The “EDUCATIONAL TRIPTYCH” was organized as part of the December Days and celebration of the 74th University of Sarajevo’s Anniversary.
