The Department “Council of Europe Right” officially opened at the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Law
The department “The Council of Europe Right” on the II study cycle was officially opened at the ceremony held at the University of Sarajevo the Faculty of Law, the oldest higher education institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the field of social sciences.
In her address, Faculty of Law Dean, Prof. Dr. Zinka Grbo emphasized that “the study of human rights within university education is a necessary tool for educating young lawyers and lawyers to apply certain values and norms in their daily work. Quality education in this area is raised by human rights culture because young lawyers and lawyers promote values such as democracy, tolerance, multiculturalism, equality and non-discrimination. Ethical values lead to sensitization for human rights topics, the reduction of corruption in the judiciary, to promote volunteer and pro bono work, as well as to advocate for equal and efficient access to the judiciary.“
Prof. Dr. Jasminka Gradaščević-Sijerčić, Head of the Department of State and International Public Law, presented the new Master Program’s curiculum.
Bojana Urumova, the head of the Council of Europe in Sarajevo, said the new study program will enable students to students in the Law Faculty to protect the human rights of each citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The opening of the program was attended, and conveniently addressed the Kingdom of Norway in BiH Olav Reinertsen and the German ambassador to BiH Thomas Fitschen, whose governments support the incentive programs of the Council of Europe.
The new Master program “The Council of Europe Right” is the result of the continued activities of the Council of Europe within the project "Legal Security Initiative and Efficient Justice in Bosnia and Herzegovina - Phase I, III" with the aim of recognizing the exceptional importance of human rights education for human rights for Rights students.
