Abdulah Šarčević - Winner of the World Award for Humanism for 2021
Ohrid Academy of Humanism
Winner of the World Award for Humanism for 2021, by which the Ohrid Academy of Humanities celebrates the name of St. Clement on all world meridians is academician Abdulah Šarčević, a regular member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of BiH, one of the leading philosophers and thinkers in the Balkans and beyond in Europe.
Professor Šarčević is the fifteenth winner of this unique award that Ohrid, the UNESCO city, has already awarded Nobel laureates to Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Herta Miller, world legend Diasakz Ikeda, Ravi Shankar, Peter Brook, Manoel de Olivieri, Romano Prodi, awakening spiritual sources from the first medieval school of humanism, founded by the students of St. Cyril and Methodius, protector of Europe.
In a letter to the President of the International Jury, Ambassador Jordan Plevneš, Professor Abdulah Šarčević points out “I am extremely honored that the Ohrid Academy of Humanities has included my name in this award of great prestige, which has so far been awarded to figures who have left a deep mark in world history humanism. It is with great joy that I confirm my arrival in Ohrid to receive this high recognition.”
The award ceremony will be held on 18 January, on the eve of the great feast of the Epiphany, in the house of Uranium MANU. Jordan Plevneš and academician Georgi Stardelov will give a speech in honor of Šarčević, because the beginning of Šarčević's university career is related to the Faculty of Philosophy in Skopje, after which he continues working in Sarajevo, Zagreb and several European and American universities.
The award will be presented to Šarčević by the Mayor of Ohrid, Konstantin Georgieski, at a larger international gathering, where representatives and mayors of twinned European cities with the city of Ohrid and other cities under the auspices of UNESCO will be present. Then, laureate Šarčević will address the audience with his speech. The next day, January 19, 2021, there will be an International On Line Conference entitled "Ohrid School of Humanism from the Middle Ages to the present in Europe and the world", which will be attended by, among others, the President of MANU Ljupčo Kocarev, Jean-Patrick Conrad - President of the European Academy of Sciences and Literature in London, Ralica Ruseva - Art Historian in Sofia, Bulgaria, Ricardo Brizi - Sociologist from the University of Bologna, Italy, Professor Fabrice Dalmeida - Professor at the ASA Pantheon, Sorbonne, Paris, France.
