A formal reception for the guests and participants of the two-day meeting of the EUPeace Alliance board: Management Board, Organization Board and Education Board was held today in the Sarajevo City Hall.
The EUPeace Alliance (European University for Peace, Justice, and Inclusive Societies), of which the University of Sarajevo is a proud part, is dedicated to promoting peace, justice, and inclusive societies through education, research, and field activities.
With welcoming words, University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj reminded that the full name of the Alliance is the European University for Peace, Justice and Inclusive Societies, and pointed out that Sarajevo, because of its history and experience, is an exceptional community that can really offer a special perspective and insights into these concepts and values on which Alliance is based.
“By participating in the Alliance of Universities in Sarajevo, it continues to show its firm commitment to establishing and maintaining an academic platform that gathers academic communities of universities from European cities for the purpose of academic cooperation and exchange and further promotion and protection of peace,” stressed Rector Škrijelj.
The guests were also greeted by Prof. Dr. Enita Nakaš, UNSA Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Prof. Dr. Evelyn Korn, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alliance and Deputy President of the University of Marburg. Through their speeches, they emphasized the importance of cooperation between universities as a key step towards building peace, and the importance of this initiative within which universities can work together to promote a culture of dialogue, understanding and cooperation in the context of building harmonious societies in which differences and diversity are respected.
EUPeace actively promotes a culture of dialogue and negotiation and contributes to building harmonious and inclusive societies.
The EUPeace alliance consists of nine European universities: University of Marburg (Germany) - coordinator, Comillas Ponteficia University of Madrid (Spain), Çukurova University of Adana (Turkey), University of Giessen (Germany), University of Calabria (Italy), University of Limoges (France), University of Mostar (BiH), University of Sarajevo (BiH), University of West Bohemia (Czech Republic).
