Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović elected as rector of the University of Sarajevo for the period 2024-2028
The electoral session of the University of Sarajevo Senate, chaired by the authority granted by the Senate, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Rector of the University of Sarajevo, was held on Wednesday, 3 July 2024.
In accordance with the Law on Higher Education of the Canton of Sarajevo and the Statute of the University of Sarajevo, for the Rector of the University of Sarajevo for the period 2024-2028 Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, who received the required majority of the votes of the Senate members, was elected.
After the adoption of the Report of the Commission for the Implementation of the Procedure for the Election of the Rector of the University of Sarajevo for the mandate period 2024-2028. In 2016, the Commission for conducting the voting procedure for the election of the rector of the University of Sarajevo was appointed and the Voting Procedure for the election of the rector of the University of Sarajevo was adopted, oral presentations of the work programs of the candidates for the election of the rector of the University of Sarajevo for the mandate period 2024-2028 were made. years.
The competing candidates were:
- Prof. Dr. Almira Hadžović-Džuvo, full professor at the University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Medicine and
- Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, full professor at the University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Economics.
46 senators took place in the voting. After the first round, no candidate received the required majority of votes, so the voting was repeated. The second round of voting followed, in which Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović got 24 votes, Prof. Dr. Almira Hadžović-Džuvo 21 votes, and 1 vote was invalid.
The term of office of the elected rector of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović will start on 1 October 2024.
