Day 4 of the 9th International Staff Training Week at UNSA dedicated to health aspects of student mental health
To promote the Erasmus program and to network the University of Sarajevo with higher education institutions throughout Europe, the Department for International Cooperation of the University of Sarajevo organised the Ninth International Training Week for foreign teaching and non-teaching staff in the period from July 3 to 7, 2023. On this occasion, the University of Sarajevo hosts 70 participants, representatives of 39 higher education institutions from 13 countries (Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Turkey).
On the fourth day of the 9th staff week, the participants had the opportunity to attend a lecture by a senior assistant at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sarajevo, dr. med. Edne Supur on "Health aspects of students' mental health". Dr Supur emphasised that mental health is a crucial aspect of students' overall well-being and that it is essential to address the mental health needs of students. The pressures and challenges students face can significantly impact their mental well-being. The academic environment can be very demanding, with expectations for high grades, performance and achievement. This pressure can lead to stress and anxiety, which affects students' mental health. Higher education institutions should create a supportive atmosphere prioritising academic success and mental well-being. After the presentation, a discussion was opened where experiences on mental health at foreign partner institutions were exchanged.
After the session, the participants received certificates of successful attendance and active engagement during the 9th international staff training week.
On the last fifth day (Friday), Stay Active and Cultural excursions are scheduled so that foreign guests can get to know the beauties of our country.
