The first university conference on civic education held
The CIVITAS Education Center in partnership with the Public Relations Office of the Embassy of the United States initiated the first joint university conference dedicated to topics in the field of civic education. The conference was officially proclaimed openly by Nicholas Hersh, the media attaché of the US Embassy in the UNSA Rectorate on 3 December 2018.
Attendees were addressed by University of Tuzla Rector, Prof. Dr. Nermina Hadžigrahić. expert panel was led by Prof. Dr. Izudin Hasanović, Law Faculty Dean, University of Tuzla, Prof. Dr. Asim Peco, Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training at the University “Džemal Bijedić” in Mostar, Prof. Dr. Faruk Kozić, Vice Dean for Teaching Faculty of Philosophy, University of Zenica, Prof. Dr. Emir Vajzović, Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo, prof. Mile Ilić, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Banja Luka, Prof. Dr. Damirka Mihaljević, University of Mostar and Prof. Dr. Nevzet Veladžić, Faculty of Law, University of Bihać.
The topic of this panel was the role of the university in the education of informed, responsible citizens who critically consider the socio-political reality, recognize the problems of public policy, find out, propose and advocate the adoption of system solutions for recognized problems aware of their individual social and civic responsibilities.
The program of the second day of the conference was held at the amphitheater of the Faculty of Political Sciences, and opened by Prof. Dr. Šaćiir Filandra, Dean. The students had the opportunity to attend two expert panels, first on the role of the university in promoting democratic values and empowering an active and responsible citizen in the Bosnian pluralistic society, and the other on improving the teaching approach of universities in training future graduates for active and responsible action in a democratic society.
