The Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton visited the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Catholic Theology
On 31 January 2024, the Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, Prof. Dr. Adna Mesihović, with colleagues, visited the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Catholic Theology.
The meeting was attended by the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Catholic Theology Dean, Associate Professor Dr. Mario Bernardić, Vice Dean for Development and Finance, Prof. Dr. Darko Tomašević, Vice Dean for Science, Assoc. Dr. Ilija Marković, Vice Dean for Teaching, Assistant Prof. Dr. Oliver Jurišić and Sanja Miličević, B.Sc. Iur., secretary of the Faculty.
The task of the UNSA University of Sarajevo Faculty of Catholic Theology as a higher education institution is the upbringing and education of priest candidates and lay people at the academic level, who will assume part of the responsibility in the Church and society and be leaders in the mission of the Church.
Dean Bernardić pointed out that all lecture halls are equipped with the latest multimedia and Internet access. It is planned to open a new “Virtual Library” section on the Faculty's website in order to make available theological texts, inserts from important theological parts, etc.
Minister Mesihović emphasized the importance of the Catholic Faculty of Theology of the University of Sarajevo in Sarajevo Canton, especially bearing in mind that it is often the center of intellectual discussions on ethical, moral and social issues. She emphasized that through her research projects and activities, she contributes to the development of tolerance and inter-religious harmony in Sarajevo Canton.
“The Faculty of Theology plays a key role in promoting intercultural dialogue and understanding between religious communities. Through its activities, it has a profound impact on the spiritual, cultural and social diversity of the Canton of Sarajevo and on the strengthening of multicultural ties among citizens. Through the education of future theologians, it contributes to the preservation of the cultural and religious identity of the community. It was a pleasure to visit colleagues from the faculty and discuss future cooperation with the Ministry with a special focus on preserving the historical importance of the faculty, but also the modernization of scientific programs and the pursuit of excellence in all scientific fields,” Minister Mesihović concluded.
The Minister also visited the building of the Vrhbosna Theological Seminary and the Church of St. Cyril and Methodius located inside the same building.
