The most significant regional statistical conference - ICOS 2019 started at the Faculty of Economics

The Second International Conference on International Statistics on Official Statistics - ICOS 2019: Trends in Statistical Methodologies and Dissemination started today in Sarajevo, gathering more than 200 guests from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Macedonia, Austria, France, Turkey, the United Kingdom and Peru. The conference was opened by Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo Dean, Prof. Dr. Jasmina Selimović, Federal Bureau of Statistics Director, Emir Kremić, after which USAID Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina Director Nancy Eslick addressed the audience. The end of the ICOS 2019 introductory part was dedicated to the memory of the late academic Harry Miller, a longtime professor in the Department of Mathematics, UNSA Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, a great mathematician and humanist.
Keynote speakers at ICOS 2019 were distinguished statisticians from 3 European countries: Dr. Edwin Diday, Professor Emeritus, Paris Dauphine University France, Prof. Dr. Ksenija Dumičić, Professor, Faculty of Economics, University of Zagreb, Dr. Robert Stehrer, Institute for International Economics, Vienna.
After the keynote address, a panel was held on the topic of developing and improving survey methodologies of statistical institutions in Southeast Europe, as well as sessions on official statistics tools and techniques and the application of statistical methodology.
The award-winning research papers produced by students Emil Ninković, Selmani Zemina, Ajla Sušić, Komar Eldar and Kuloglija Emina will be presented at the conference. The ICOS 2019 is the second international conference on official statistics to be held in Sarajevo. The focus of this year's conference is to modernize and harmonize methodologies for collecting and analyzing data as major prerequisites for decision making in all aspects of social development.
The conference is sponsored by the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with partners USAID, the World Bank and the BiH Agency for Statistics.
