UNSA Faculty of Transport and Communications contributes to the regional network of education for marine and coastal protection through training

The University of Sarajevo Faculty of Transport and Communications is organizing and implementing two specialized professional trainings this week as part of the international project Adriatic Sensitive Areas Protection - mechanism (ASAP), funded through the Interreg VI-B IPA ADRION program.
The ASAP project is aimed at strengthening the resilience and preparedness of the countries of the Adriatic-Ionian region to the consequences of climate change, natural and anthropogenic disasters, with an emphasis on the prevention and mitigation of the consequences of marine pollution. The participants in the training are representatives of relevant institutions and experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina, while lectures and practical exercises are led by Vedran Martinic and Iva Alač from the Adriatic Training and Research Centre (ATRAC), a renowned institution with many years of experience in preparing personnel for responding to maritime incidents.
The trainings include cleaning coastal areas and responding to maritime incidents, and are designed to combine theoretical part, practical exercises and simulations of real situations. In this way, participants acquire the latest knowledge and skills that have already been applied in practice in the Northern Adriatic.

Dean of the Faculty of Transport and Communications, Prof. Dr. Amel Kosovac, who is also the head of the ASAP project at the Faculty, emphasized that the organization of these trainings confirms the Faculty's commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and knowledge exchange. He emphasized that the Faculty actively contributes to strengthening the capacities of institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that its experts, in cooperation with partners, participate in processes of key importance for environmental protection and safety of the Adriatic Sea.

Joint exercises at sea are also planned within the project, as well as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding that will establish a framework for a future permanent coordination platform. These activities contribute to the development of common procedures and standardized practices in interventions in environmental disasters, thus ensuring a more efficient and coordinated response of institutions throughout the region.
In this way, the University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Transport and Communications confirms its role as a leader in the field of education and professional training in the transport and communications sector, and contributes to the construction of sustainable mechanisms for the protection of Adriatic’s sensitive areas.
