Ranking in world university rankings: QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education World University Rankings

QS World University Rankings has published its 21st edition, which includes 1,503 top institutions. The University of Sarajevo is the only university from Bosnia and Herzegovina that is on the QS World University Rankings for 2025, and this year we are witnessing an increase from the rank of 1200-1400 to a position between 1001 and 1200.

In the QS ranking for Europe, the University of Sarajevo is at the 488th position.

The reliability of the QS World University Rankings confirms the coverage of nine criteria by which university quality is measured, which include: academic reputation, employer reputation, ratio of academic staff to students, citation of academic staff, involvement of international academic staff, involvement of international students, international research networking, employment success and sustainability.

Acknowledging the complexity of the global issues we face, the QS World University Rankings emphasize employability and sustainability, assessing the comprehensive ability of universities to offer solutions, innovate, and drive social initiatives that will have a visible and measurable socio-economic impact.

This is precisely why the QS World University Rankings is designed as a framework that is constantly being improved in order to be able to show as many dimensions as possible of the socio-economic impact of universities.

It is important to note that the QS rankings are primarily aimed at international students searching for study opportunities, and QS states that their mission is to enable motivated students around the world to fulfill their potential. Since the previous edition, three new indicators have been incorporated into the QS World University Ranking: sustainability, employment success and international research networking, and the University of Sarajevo achieved significant results precisely on these indicators.

From the above, it can be concluded that the capacity of the University of Sarajevo to offer students a wide, modern and multidisciplinary offer of study programs is recognized, as well as our position as an attractive partner for international projects.

Times Higher Education World University Rankings is the only global university performance measurement system that evaluates all of a university's core missions: teaching, scientific research, knowledge transfer and international perspectives.

In the ranking of universities for the year 2024 - Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024, which ranks 1,906 universities from 108 countries and regions of the world, the University of Sarajevo is in position 1501+.

In their 20th edition in 2024, they have gone from 13 to 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced university comparisons. This comprehensive method of evaluation takes into account the size, importance and reputation of higher education institutions, both for the local community, as well as regionally and internationally, as well as the breadth of the offer of various study programs, as well as the possibility of their synergy through multidisciplinary work.

It is significant for the University of Sarajevo that it is included in this list, which confirms that strict criteria have been met, which is primarily a number of at least 1,000 relevant publications in the period from 2018 to 2022. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings evaluated the data of 2,673 universities, and 1,906 of them made it to the ranking list after the evaluation.

The results presented are a reflection of the commitment of the University of Sarajevo to academic excellence, research, internationalization and the constant striving to improve our educational system. The University of Sarajevo continues to be a proud leader in the field of higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a vision to contribute to the development of society.

All these successes were achieved thanks to the synergistic action of the leadership of the University of Sarajevo, the academic and administrative staff of members of the University of Sarajevo, and the students of our university.

Given that the QS World University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, in addition to the Shanghai ranking list, are among the most serious university rankings in the world, it is expected that the University of Sarajevo, if it continues to invest in quality and research in this way, in the next period to take its position in the Shanghai ranking of universities.
