Exhibition "DIASPONA – I'm Coming Home" Officially Opens in Sarajevo

On Thursday, 8 October 2026, the international architectural exhibition "DIASPONA – I'm Coming Home" was officially opened in the hall of the Sarajevo Railway Station. The event is part of the "d.i.a.spona – Sarajevo School of Architecture in the World" manifestation, organized by the DIASPONA Foundation in partnership with the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Sarajevo.

The exhibition gathers works by nearly 90 architects, former students of the Faculty of Architecture in Sarajevo, who are now professionally active in 26 countries worldwide. Through more than 300 presented works, the exhibition testifies to the international contribution of the Sarajevo school of architecture and seeks to reconnect generations of architects, their professional experiences, and the city where their education began.

Speaking on behalf of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Nermina Zagora, Vice-Dean for Scientific Research, emphasized the importance of connecting former and current generations of students, as well as the significance of presenting architecture in public urban spaces.

The Faculty of Architecture at the University of Sarajevo, as the institution where the exhibition participants received their education, holds a special place in the realization of this project. In addition to showcasing the professional achievements of its former students, the exhibition opens possibilities for establishing new forms of academic and professional cooperation, knowledge exchange, and connecting students with architects working in the international professional environment.

Academician Nikola Bašić, one of the prominent architects who received their education in Sarajevo, spoke about the importance of the Sarajevo school of architecture. Architect Hasan Ćemalović, the initiator of the project and president of the DIASPONA Foundation, presented the idea and development of the project, while architect Emir Salkić discussed the concept and realization of the exhibition setup.

The exhibition was symbolically opened by Hasan Ćemalović and students of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Sarajevo, Asja Muftić and Dino Velić, emphasizing the continuity between generations and the importance of transferring knowledge and experience.

As part of the accompanying program of the "d.i.a.spona" project, a series of professional and cultural activities are planned. On Friday, 9 October, at 13:00 in the hall of the Sarajevo Railway Station, a panel discussion titled "Without Walls" will be held, dedicated to the communication between architecture and society, featuring Hasan Ćemalović, Academician Amir Vuka Zec, and Emir Salkić. The program also includes a joint visit to the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On Saturday, 10 October, an international symposium titled "City Perspectives – Contemporary Approaches to Urbanism: International Experiences and Local Opportunities" will be held at the UNITIC Amphitheater. These activities represent a continuation of the dialogue on architecture, urbanism, and the role of the profession in contemporary society.

The exhibition will remain open until 25 November 2026. The accompanying program includes professional conversations, panel discussions, and the international urban symposium "City Perspectives."
