The Second Student Conference Violence in the Family: Criminal, Criminological and Security Aspects Held

At the University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies, on 22 January 2024, the second student conference Violence in the Family: Criminal, Criminological and Security Aspects was held. The conference was organized as part of the course Practical Teaching - Professional Practice 5, which is attended by third-year undergraduate students.

Domestic violence is one of the most difficult and alarming problems of modern society. Regardless of culture, socioeconomic status, or geographic origin, this topic remains a challenge for many communities around the world, including Bosnia and Herzegovina. Solving the problem of domestic violence requires a comprehensive intervention, including education, awareness, legislative measures and provision of appropriate psychological support to victims. Creating awareness about this pressing issue is important so that we as a society can work together to build an environment where every member of the family can feel true security, love and support.

The goal of the Student Conference was to raise awareness of the problem of domestic violence and encourage students to reflect, read and research. A total of 22 expert papers were prepared that dealt with various aspects of the phenomenon of domestic violence, including conceptual definition, international and domestic legal framework for protection against domestic violence, the relationship of the state and society towards victims, including issues of transgenerational transmission of violence and related risk factors. with domestic violence.

Faculty Dean, Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ahić, opened the Student Conference, while the plenary presentation held by Dr. Sc. Majda Halilović, head of research at the Center for Research on Security and Justice Issues - Atlantic Initiative.

The conference was judged to be very successful, and it is expected that research on these and other important issues will continue in the future as part of the subject Practical Teaching - Professional Practice 5. The conference was organized by subject professors, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nerma Halilović-Kibrić and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sandra Kobajica Mišanović.
