Assistant Professor at Music Academy, Dr. Amila Ramović Bonn conference in the Beethoven2020 program leader
Dr. Amila Ramović, assistant professor at the Sarajevo Academy of Music, was the executive director of the Beethoven2020 Arts and Education Conference, hosted by the New York Manhattan String Quartet in Bonn from 10 to 19 January.
The program, which was prepared in his hometown on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, involved 60 participants and 13 lecturers and workshop leaders. The idea of the program was to question how the principles of Enlightenment and humanism shaped Beethoven's artistic discourse, but also how, as such, Ludwig van Beethoven's work intersects with what we recognize as our own culture of living. Of particular interest was his influence on the broadest circles, and consideration of the ways in which his works influence and those who do not necessarily have academic music education. Following the ethos of lifelong learning ideas, the project involved trainees of different profiles, from professional musicians and theorists to amateurs, from students to those in their late years.
The activities were implemented through three program segments. In addition to the concerts, he included the work of art through consideration of possible musical interpretations of selected Beethoven works with the guidance of the Manhattan Quartet. Theoretical lectures were led by renowned lecturers, such as Dr. Anna Lim (Princeton University), Ph.D. David Clampitt (Yale University - Ohio State University), Ph.D. Jenns Duffner (BeethovenHaus), Jan Swafford, award-winning author of the New York Times bestseller - biographies of Beethoven: Anguish and Triumph. Cultural expeditions included guided visits to places where particular works were performed, where the composer resided, or where his legacy is being studied today.
Composition in Conference’s focus was the String Quartet op. 59 br. 3, in addition to analytical reviews, was the focus of the Manhattan String Quartet concert in the Schloßkirche space, the church where Beethoven himself was employed as a "music director" and organist until his fifteenth year.
