University of Sarajevo gave 176 awards for scientific/artistic work to academic and scientific research staff
Today, in the University of Sarajevo Rectorate, a ceremony was held to award academic and scientific research staff based on the results of scientific/artistic work for the year 2021, in accordance with the UNSA Rulebook on Rewarding Academic and Scientific Research Staff.
For the fifth year in a row, the University of Sarajevo has been implementing the Rulebook on Rewards, in accordance with which financial rewards are awarded to academic and scientific research staff based on the results of scientific and artistic work.
On this occasion, 176 awards were given: 172 awards for members of the academic and scientific research staff from 21 members of the University of Sarajevo and 4 awards for artistic work and work in national humanistic disciplines.
University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj congratulated to the award winners, pointing out that investing in science is a long-term investment for the development of our country, and that it is therefore strategically extremely important to direct the available resources to the strengthening and development of science and innovation, so that we can respond to the numerous challenges of global development.
“Investments in science at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina are very demotivating, although on the other hand we can be proud of the fact that the University of Sarajevo recognized the importance of valuing excellence in science and art”, said Rector Škrijelj, and emphasized that for the University of Sarajevo extremely important that our researchers act on the international scientific scene by publishing in recognized scientific journals and thus promote our country and our University.
Telling the award winners that he believes that with their actions they will initiate many significant processes aimed at the general improvement of our society and thus motivate other researchers to join them, Rector Škrijelj stated: “You are part of the positive trend of increasing scientific production at the University in Sarajevo, because today we reward almost 7 times more researchers than was the case in the first and second year of the application of the Rulebook. This is certainly a confirmation of our determination that the trend of awarding scientific excellence should certainly be continued.”
Minister for Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić congratulated the award winners, saying that it was a great pleasure to witness today's pre-New Year's fireworks display of excellence, knowledge and achievements organized by the University of Sarajevo. She also emphasized that it makes her proud to see the effects of valuing scientific and artistic work and their contribution to the rapid development of our university.
The winners were presented by the rector of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj and Vice-Rector for Research Prof. Dr. Mirza Dautbašić.
On behalf of the award winners, Prof. Dr. Naida Ademović, who scored the highest number of points on the list of award winners for 2021, and on behalf of the special award winners, Assoc. Dr. Mehmed Kardaš, one of the winners of the award for contribution in the field of national disciplines in 2021.
During the five years of application of the Rulebook on Awards, the number of awardees increased almost 7 times, which proves the stimulating impact of the evaluation of scientific and artistic work, and confirms the commitment of the University of Sarajevo to continue the trend of awarding scientific excellence.
