The UNSA Faculty of Sports and Physical Education Celebrated its 60th Anniversary with an Academy
The Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, University of Sarajevo is celebrating its 60th Anniversary with a rich program from 26 to 29 October.
The Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, founded in 1963, with its long tradition, orientation towards excellence, commitment of the teaching staff and management bears the epithet of a leader in the field of sports education and scientific research in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The ceremonial academy of the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education, University of Sarajevo was held at the Hills Hotel on 26 October. On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Ifet Mahmutović, Dean of the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector, Mr. Zlatko Mijatović, Minister of Economy of Sarajevo Canton, Prof. Dr. Pavle Krstić, Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, Mr. Omer Osmanović, Minister of Veteran Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Mr. Gianluca Vannini, Head of Operations of the Department for Social Development, Civil Society and Cross-Border Cooperation of the EU Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Prof. Dr. Izet Rađo, President of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Mrs. Anja Margetić Stakić, Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo.
Faculty Dean, Prof. Dr. Ifet Mahmutović addressed the audience, reminding them of the history and development of this institution and the numerous excellent results they have achieved.
“I stand here with a deep sense of pride and responsibility, aware of the importance of my task - preserving this rich tradition and further developing the Faculty so that it remains a leading institution in the field of kinesiology,” said Dean Mahmutović, adding that the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education today represents a symbol of resilience, innovation and excellence. According to Dean Mahmutović, success is not measured only by the position we have achieved in life, but also by the obstacles we have overcome while trying to reach it. “This anniversary is an opportunity to look back on the past with pride, but also to look to the future with determination. The future depends on what we do now. May our joint journeys and efforts always be guided by passion for knowledge, innovation and positive changes in the world,” concluded Dean Mahmutović.
University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj congratulated the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education on the occasion of this extraordinary jubilee. Emphasizing the successes and outstanding results achieved, Rector Škrijelj pointed out that the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education is one of the faculties that are the most serious guardians of the University of Sarajevo's brand.
“You really wear the coat of arms of the University of Sarajevo with dignity,” stressed Rector Škrijelj, and added: “Your social role and contribution to the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina is best shown by all the medals won by the athletes of this country and the competitions where the Bosnian flag is flying.” and Herzegovina. The Faculty of Sports and Physical Education of the University of Sarajevo brought championship medals from European and world competitions and showed a place called Bosnia and Herzegovina, a place where leaders are born and educated, a place where champions are born and educated, a place where the most honorable way of defending the colors of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In that name, I want to congratulate you and thank you. That was also a contribution to the University of Sarajevo”. Rector Škrijelj also said: “Let this jubilee be a reminder of your extraordinary past, but also of your bright future.” I wish you many more years of success, innovation and inspiration. We congratulate you on 60 years of excellence and look forward to your future achievements”.
The ceremonial academy was also an opportunity to award awards, plaques and certificates of thanks from the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education to deserving institutions and individuals who have made a significant contribution to the development and growth of this faculty over the past six decades.
As part of the jubilee celebration, in the Skenderija Center - Youth Center from 27 to 29 October, the First Sarajevo Sports, Health and Tourism Fair 2023 is being held, organized by the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education in cooperation with the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the Faculty of Health Studies, University of Sarajevo.
Another significant event that will magnify this jubilee is the XIV Symposium “NTS - New Technologies in Sport”. It is a scientific and professional conference organized with the main goal of exchanging ideas and scientific knowledge in the field of sports, tourism and health. For many years, the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education of the University of Sarajevo has inherited the tradition of organizing this event, which they are very proud of as a collective.
The commemoration of the jubilee will be complemented by an expert panel discussion in the field of sports, health and tourism, which will provide deep insight into current topics and trends, and the promotion of the book “Basketball in BiH from its inception to 1950”, which will present the rich heritage of sports, team sports, especially basketball in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
