At the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Philosophy, the 75th anniversary of the Department of Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian Languages was commemorated

The Student Club "Jat" and the Department of Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian Languages organized a panel discussion titled "Development of Bosniak Studies" on Friday, 19 December 2025, in celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Department.

The commemorative program brought together professors, students, alumni, high school pupils, as well as numerous guests from academic and cultural life.

Attendees were addressed by Prof. Dr. Amir Duranović representing the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Halid Bulić, Head of the Department of Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian Languages, and Amina Bašić representing the Student Club "Jat". The program and panel discussion were moderated by Ajla Mrguda, president of the Student Club "Jat".

In their speeches, the speakers highlighted the historical role of the Department of Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian Languages, one of the oldest departments at the Faculty of Philosophy, in educating generations of teaching and scientific staff. Special attention was given to the continuity of the Department’s work, its scientific output, and the contemporary challenges faced by the humanities within the broader social and academic context.

Participants in the panel discussion included: Prof. Dr. Ismail Palić, Prof. Dr. Amela Šehović, Prof. Dr. Halid Bulić, Assist. Prof. Dr. Azra Hodžić-Čavkić, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Enisa Bajraktarević, who spoke about the development of Bosniak studies and current issues in modern linguistic research.

The event was also honored by the presence of retired professors Prof. Dr. Josip Baotić and Mr. Josip Raos.

The celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Department of Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian Languages was marked by gratitude to previous generations of professors and as an encouragement for further development of the Department as a place of notable scientific production and academic dialogue.
