Successfully Completed Media and Information Literacy project for Developing Critical Thinking and Youth Advocacy Project
The intensive and dedicated work on the realization of numerous activities within the project Media and Information Literacy project for Developing Critical Thinking and Youth Advocacy crowned the closing conference held on 17 January 2020 at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo. This project is part of the Dialogue for the Future program, implemented by UN agencies in BiH - UNESCO, UNICEF and UNDP in partnership with the BiH Presidency.
In addition to the UNSA Faculty of Political Science, 3 other public universities from Bosnia and Herzegovina - Universities of East Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Mostar - participated in the implementation of the activities.
Activity balance: 16 workshops were held for different target groups (students, teachers and librarians of primary and secondary schools, journalists) in 4 cities with about 200 participants.
The workshops topics varied, but fit into a broader topic - media and information literacy and critical thinking. Primary and secondary school teachers and librarians participated in workshops on intercultural dialogue and the prevention of violent extremism. Students participated in workshops on advocacy and critical thinking in the context of media and information literacy, and journalists and editors participated in workshops on their role in promoting media and information literacy in the BiH society.
In the project’s final phase, four advocacy campaigns were implemented, created by workshop participating students in Sarajevo, East Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Mostar, and a blog was created on which students' works were published - also from the above stated 4 towns.
In addition to the workshops, a valuable team of about 50 experts conducted 2 significant surveys - self-assessment of the competences of primary and secondary school teachers and librarians in BiH in the field of media and information literacy, and in the Canton of Sarajevo a pilot survey among parents on the habits and competences of children in this field.
The results of the research will be published in the forthcoming period, and these studies are in fact a continuation of last year's pioneering research on the self-assessment of competences of primary and secondary school teachers and librarians in Sarajevo Canton, the results of which were published in the latest issue of the
Sarajevo Social Science Review.
The report from the closing conference was done and published in several media: FENA, TVSA, BH Radio 1, StartBiH, Federal.ba, HEMA TV, Udar.net, Bljesak.info, BGS - portal Sarajevo Library
