In January 2025, intensive construction work began on the interior arrangement of the Academy of Performing Arts building at the University of Sarajevo, based on a contract signed in October 2024, with a total value of slightly over 2.5 million BAM. The completion of this phase of work is planned for September 2025.

Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk and the Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, visited the works at the ASA, where they familiarized themselves with the work dynamics and discussed with representatives of the contractor.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Uk emphasized: “The completion of this building is of great importance for the academic and cultural community of Sarajevo. We are actively working to find additional financial resources to ensure the continuation and the earliest possible finalization of work, as well as to hand over this space for use by students and professors of the Academy of Performing Arts.”

Current works include construction and installation activities inside the building and on the roof, excluding the installation of final equipment, which is planned for the final phase and is covered by warranties. The focus is on the functionality of teaching spaces, including partial works on the large and small stage, as well as the TV studio.

Remaining concrete, masonry, steel, sheet metal, locksmith, waterproofing works, installation of drywall, ceramics, tribune constructions, and electrical installations are underway, with the final equipment to be installed immediately before the handover of the building for use.

Simultaneously, systems for air conditioning, ventilation, heating, and cooling are being installed, but without key equipment such as air conditioning chambers, refrigeration machines, coolers, and the boiler room, which will be implemented in the next phase.

With clearly defined goals, continuous planning, and strong institutional support, the next phases are already being carefully elaborated. With additional engagement from all relevant levels of government, the necessary funds must be secured as soon as possible, and the works brought to completion.

“The goal is for the modern, fully equipped building of the Academy of Performing Arts to open its doors to students and professors as soon as possible, and to become a place for creating new generations of artists who will shape the cultural scene of Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond,” said UNSA Rector, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović.
