Meeting of the Organizational and Scientific Committee for the International Scientific Conference “Srebrenica 30 Years After the Genocide: Memory, Responsibility, and Challenges of Denial” Held

Today, a meeting of the Organizational and Scientific Committee for the international scientific conference “Srebrenica 30 Years After the Genocide: Memory, Responsibility, and Challenges of Denial” was convened at the University of Sarajevo, which is scheduled to take place from 1 to 3 July 2025.
The conference is part of the University of Sarajevo's programming activities commemorating the 30th anniversary of the genocide against the Bosniaks in Srebrenica and its surroundings, as well as the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement. During the meeting, plans for academic panels and accompanying activities were finalized, along with the confirmation of the composition of the Organizational and Scientific Committee. The chair of the Organizational Committee is Dr. Sead Turčalo, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Sarajevo, while Dr. Muamer Džananović, Director of the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law at the University, leads the Scientific Committee.
The conference program will encompass multiple panels dedicated to key themes: the culture of memory, the responsibility of the international community, genocide denial, the role of the media, education, comparative analyses of genocide, and the significance of art and culture in preserving legal and historical truths. In addition to academic discussions, activities are planned at the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, along with artistic and cultural events.
This international scientific conference represents a significant contribution to the academic and societal community in the preservation of memory, the affirmation of a culture of remembrance, and the confrontation of the challenges posed by genocide denial. Its value is further enhanced by broad institutional support, as several members of the University of Sarajevo, in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, participate in the efforts of the Coordination, Organizational, and Scientific Committees.
