Loyola Maryland University Representative Visits University of Sarajevo

Professor for International Relations of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Kemal Durić, received Prof. Dr. Mary Kate Schneider, Director of the Global Studies Program at Loyola Maryland University.

 

During the meeting, they discussed the possibilities of improving academic cooperation between the two institutions, with a special focus on the development of joint activities in the field of international education, student visits and short-term academic programs. The meeting was an opportunity to exchange experiences on the organization of study programs that provide students with a better understanding of contemporary social, political and cultural processes in different parts of the world.

 

Professor Schneider announced the arrival of a group of students from Loyola Maryland University who will be visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina in May this year as part of a study trip dedicated to getting to know the Western Balkans region. During their stay in Sarajevo, the students will have the opportunity to learn about the history, culture and socio-political context of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as various aspects of contemporary youth life in the country.

 

During the visit, the students are expected to attend lectures and academic activities that will be held at the University of Sarajevo during that period, which relate to the topics of contemporary social processes, civic engagement and the role of youth in society. A meeting with representatives of the Student Parliament of the University of Sarajevo is also planned, who will host the American students in an informal conversation about student life, student organization and current issues of importance to the student community.

 

During the meeting, the possibilities of developing longer-term cooperation between the two institutions through the organization of joint summer schools, short-term study programs and other forms of academic exchange that would enable students of both universities to gain international experience and develop intercultural competences through study visits and joint activities.

 

In the coming period, the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Sarajevo and Loyola Maryland University will also be considered, which would represent an institutional framework for further strengthening cooperation in the fields of education, research and mobility of students and academic staff.

 

Vice-Rector Durić thanked Professor Schneider for the visit and constructive conversation, emphasizing that the University of Sarajevo attaches special importance to the development of cooperation with universities in the United States of America, and that such initiatives represent an important step towards strengthening the international visibility and academic connections of the University.
