International Scientific Conference The “21st Days of Criminal Science - CFS 25" Held
The University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies successfully organized the international scientific conference “21st Days of Criminal Science - CFS 25,” which was held on 2 and 3 October 2025 with this year's theme "Criminal Science, Criminology and Security Studies in the 21st Century".
The conference brought together numerous domestic and international scientists, researchers, experts in the field of criminal science, criminology, security, law and related disciplines. Participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Western Balkans, the European Union, the Republic of Turkey and the United Kingdom presented the latest research and exchanged experiences through a series of thematic sessions and panels.
This year's conference was dedicated to current challenges in the field of security, the fight against modern forms of crime, crime prevention, and the role of education and scientific research in dealing with new threats.
The conference was opened by the Faculty Dean, Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ahić, who in his introductory speech emphasized the importance of continuous scientific cooperation and knowledge exchange at the international level. As part of the opening ceremony, the attendees were also addressed by the University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, Faculty of Philosophy at the University "St. Cyril and Methodius" from Skopje Dean, Lejla Čopelj on behalf of the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the President of the Scientific and Program Committee of the conference, Prof. Dr. Lada Sadiković.
Rector, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, emphasized in his address that the interdisciplinary approach, which we see at today's conference, is not only a research approach, but also a way of thinking. "It teaches us that no scientific problem is simple and that no profession alone can offer complete solutions. Only in dialogue, in the interweaving of theory and practice, is it possible to build answers that are sustainable and applicable in modern societies," said Rector Zaimović. Speaking about the security challenges of our time, the rector emphasized that they do not recognize boundaries between scientific fields, and that they require a joint response from lawyers, psychologists, sociologists, computer scientists, political scientists, and other experts.
"That is precisely why this conference has a special value – because it brings together different perspectives and connects knowledge that is rarely encountered in the same space," emphasized Rector Zaimović, and concluded: "I am convinced that this conference is not only an opportunity for the exchange of ideas, but also for building bridges – between disciplines, institutions, generations and countries. This is precisely its greatest asset and contribution.
The two-day conference included two master class lectures, two plenary discussions and ten working panels presenting the results of contemporary research and analysis of current security problems in the region and the world, as well as a special panel of the EU Cost Action - Establishing Networks to Implement the Principles on Effective Interviewing for Investigations - IMPLEMENDEZ (CA22128).
The conference papers will be published in the journal “Kriminalističke teme,” which will make the conference's contribution available to the wider academic and professional community.
