Frankfurt Book Fair Promotion of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for 2020
On 17 October 2019, at the International Frankfurt Book Fair, candidates for The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for 2020 were promoted.
237 candidates from 68 countries have been nominated. The winner of this prestigious prize of 5 million Swedish crowns will be announced in Stockholm on 31 March 2020.
Astrid Lindgren was born in 1907 in Sweden. Her works have been translated into more than 95 languages, making her one of the most popular children's literature writers. She gained fame by creating the literary heroine Pipi Longstocking.
She died in Stockholm in 2002, when the Swedish Government established the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) in her honor.
This prestigious award for children's literature is awarded annually to one of the world's most recognized children writers.
Since 2007, the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been the only nominating body from BiH for the Astrid Lindgren Award and authorized by the Swedish Arts Council and nominates candidates from our country.
The first candidate was a prominent children's writer, Bisera Alikadić (2008), followed by other well-known children's writers: Nura Bazdulj-Hubijar (2009), Šimo Ešić (2009), Mirsad Bećirbašić (2010), Ljubica Ostojić (2011), Ferida Duraković, Ranko Pavlović (2012), Jovo Čulić, Kemal Mahmutefendić, (2013), Ismet Bekrić (2014), Alija H. Dubočanin and Jagoda Ilicic (2015), Mirsad Abdagić Kike and Muhidin Šarić (2016), Jelena Kojović Tepić and Fahrudin Kučuk (2018) Sonja Jurić and Zejćir Hasić (2018), Šimo Ešić and Fahrudin Kučuk (2019), and for 2020 Mirsad Bećirbašić and Šimo Ešić.
