Final meeting of the interest parties of the project "Assessment of Nature Condition and Natural Resources Management in Bosnia and Herzegovina
In Sarajevo, on 3 October 2023 a final stakeholders meeting of the project “Assessment of Nature and Natural Resources in Bosnia and Herzegovina” was held.
The third, final meeting began with the introductory address of the project coordinator Prof. Dr. Senka Barudanović from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Sarajevo. “This is one of the few projects that has gathered scientific workers from all over the country, and so it was from beginning to end thanks to the universities in Sarajevo called and received a consent of all other universe," said Professor Barudanović. She also emphasized that the knowledge of this topic that detected during four years of project realizations is not sufficient to sustain nature, and they are necessary for the decision-makers to better manage resources and preserve nature for the next generations. She explained that the project brought together more than 100 scientific workers with eight public university universities in BiH who worked volunteer, which is a unique case in our country.
With a partnership between the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism (FMOIT), as key contact for bodies in BiH and the University of Sarajevo, in the participation and monitoring of this project relevant institutions, public universe, non -governmental organizations and local communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina are animated.
The event was also attended by the Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism Prof. Dr. Nasiha Pozder, who thanked the attendees for the work done and emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue between decisions and scientific communities.
University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj addressed the participants and reminded that, due to its exceptional importance, the University of Sarajevo sought and received from the Rector's Conference/Rector's Assembly in BiH, made up of rectors of all public university universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to actively participate in the support of this project.
“Through this project, a cross-section of scientific knowledge about the role of different aspects of nature in our lives and our society is made. Today we are here to look at the results of the knowledge assessment and to jointly recognize the benefits that we can have through their use” concluded Rector Škrijelj.
At the final meeting, it is pointed out that the states and trends of nature and natural resources in BiH, directly and indirectly, negatively and more pronounced, are affected by numerous developmental and social pressures. It is precise that, although there are significant potentials for improvement, existing sectoral policy and management institutional arrangements are not currently providing long-term, regulatory and financial framework for the greater contribution of nature and natural resources to the sustainable development of BiH.
The third and at the same time the final meeting of the interest sides was held, aimed at the final adoption of the summary for the decisions, which happened at the end of the meeting and thus closed, and in the meantime, executive abstracts of the chapter in parts were exposed.
