Cooperation between Sarajevo Canton and the University of Sarajevo: Integrative Processes at the University of Sarajevo
At the University of Sarajevo Rectorate, two meetings were held between representatives of the executive and legislative authorities of the Sarajevo Canton and representatives of the University of Sarajevo’s management, the Steering Committee and the Senate.
The meeting’s topic was Building and Development of the University Campus in Sarajevo. At the meeting were present Elmedin Konaković, KSF Chairman, Edin Forto, Prime Minister of the Government, Damir Filipović, Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection, Zineta Bogunić, Minister of Education, Science and Youth, Mirza Hulusić, Director of the KS Construction Center, Nedžad Koldžo, Municipality of Novo Sarajevo Mayor with his associates, and the responsible representatives of the University of Sarajevo. In an open and constructive discussion, guidance was provided for the treatment of all competent institutions regarding the current activities of the University of Sarajevo Campus building and development related to the capital project for the construction of the University Library, improvement of heating and public lighting systems, reconstruction of devastated facilities and other issues which are of crucial importance for the establishment of a modern University Campus in Sarajevo.
In accordance with the UNSA Senate’s conclusion, a joint meeting was attended by the leaders and representatives of the Assembly of KS, the Prime Minister and ministers in the Government of KS, the leadership and members of the UNSA Steering Board and Senate, UNSA's representatives and employees, and student representatives. After short introductory speeches, discussions were held on the necessary amendments to the Law on Higher Education, UNSA's integration process, especially in the UNSA's introduction to the treasury business system, UNSA's assets, outstanding issues related to the application of the recently adopted Collective Agreement in the field of higher education, the engagement of external associates, and the strategic orientations of the Sarajevo Canton with regard to higher education and the University of Sarajevo.
Assembly Chairman Konaković expressed his full support to the integrated University of Sarajevo, while the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton emphasized that key and extremely important constant communication is keeping in mind that the autonomy of the University is not disturbed.
All participants stressed that meetings of this nature, allowing direct contact between representatives of executive and legislative authorities and members of the academic community, are extremely useful and need to be maintained in continuity.
Rector prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj pointed out that the University of Sarajevo in its 70 years went through the greatest transformation, reorganization and reform processes. In closing note, Rector Škrijelj pointed out that the University of Sarajevo had approached the financial integration, pointing to the importance of cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and Education, Science and Youth, and stressed the need to complete the process of legal integration of the University as well as the urgent amendments and amendments to the Law on High education KS.
