Continuous cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and the US Embassy in BiH
Embassy of the United States of America representatives: Allyson Algeo, Head of the Public Relations Office, Holly Zardus, Attaché for Culture and Education, and Elizabeta Delalić, Expert Advisor for Education and Culture, visited the University of Sarajevo Rectorate on Thursday 10 October 2019, where they were received by Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj.
The meeting was also attended by University Vice-Rectors: Prof. Dr. Aida Hodžić, Prof. Dr. Dženana Husremović, Prof. Sanja Burić and Prof. Dr. Maida Čohodar Husić, and Dr. Jasna Bošnjović, Head of the Department for International Cooperation and Mr. Sc. Miroslav Živanović, Head of the Rector's Office.
During the meeting, they discussed the current situation in the field of higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the possibilities of improving cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and the US Embassy in BiH.
It was emphasized that this meeting continues the successful cooperation between the University and the Embassy, which is realized through strengthening the links between the University of Sarajevo and the universities in the USA, the Fulbright exchange program and other programs. Since 1972, the University of Sarajevo has been continuously cooperating with higher education institutions in the US, and since then 40 academic cooperation agreements have been signed, 12 of which are currently active.
After welcoming Embassy representatives, Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj reminded that the University of Sarajevo is the only public university in the Canton of Sarajevo, the best-ranked university in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and university’s marking of the 70th Anniversary this year. Rector Škrijelj also expressed his gratitude for the longstanding cooperation and support that the Embassy provides to the University.
Allyson Algeo, Head of the US Embassy's Public Relations Office, also expressed satisfaction with the past and future collaboration, emphasizing that investing in science, scientific research and scientists is key to a country's success and development.
