Ceremonial Academy on the occasion of the UNSA Faculty of Law 80th anniversary
Representatives of the academic community, legislative, executive and judicial authorities and numerous guests gathered yesterday at the ceremony marking 80 years of existence and continuous work of the Faculty of Law of the University of Sarajevo.
Faculty of Law Dean, Prof. Dr. Zinka Grbo points out that, during eight decades of activity, the Faculty of Law has produced generations of lawyers who have made and continue to make a significant contribution to the legal, political and social development of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The tradition of the Faculty is marked by continuous dedication to the promotion of knowledge, ideals of justice, the rule of law and the highest standards of the legal profession and science.
"Increasingly complex social relations, technology development, digitization require new approaches to education and research. These challenges are also an incentive for us to show the ability to adapt the tradition we inherit to new circumstances," she said, among other things, at the ceremony.
Among our alumni, she said, are members of the Presidency of BiH, judges of the supreme courts, representatives of the executive branch at all levels, prosecutors, lawyers, civil servants, legislators and university professors who have shaped the legal and social life of the community not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, emphasized that the University, throughout its history, has relied on its founding members, and the Faculty of Law is undoubtedly one of its key pillars, not only in the academic sense but also in the overall institutional and substantive context.
Member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić, as an alumni of the Faculty, addressed the academy on the occasion of celebrating the 80th anniversary of the UNSA Faculty of Law.
Aware of the function he currently holds, he says he is emotional when it comes to the building of the University of Sarajevo and the Faculty of Law, which he has fond memories of. He emphasized that the faculty educates personnel who have the knowledge, skills and ethical values to lead individual institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is very important.
“I know that back then, in my generation of students at the Faculty of Law, they taught us not only the essence of legal science, but also ethics, because it is important that, in addition to what you bring from your family, you also acquire norms and ways of behaving that have basic ethical values in them during your education. Many of those who are educated at that faculty are in a position to decide something, to decide on the fate of other people, on what this country will be like, what society will ultimately be like, because it is impossible to avoid that influence on social processes,” Komšić emphasized.
In his congratulatory message for the anniversary of the existence and work of the Faculty of Law of the University of Sarajevo, the Chairman of the Assembly of the Sarajevo Canton, Elvedin Okerić, emphasized that eight decades of an educational institution are not just a time period – they are a testament to the continuity of knowledge, dedication and responsibility towards society.
“The Faculty of Law has been, all these years, and remains one of the fundamental pillars of legal thought, academic excellence and the building of a rule of law in BiH,” he said.
The University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Law, the oldest modern higher education institution in the field of social sciences in Bosnia and Herzegovina, this year marks 80 years of existence and continuous work, confirming its key role in the development of legal science and legal education in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the UNSA Faculty of Law, at University of Sarajevo Rectorate a special musical program was organized yesterday.
