The 55th Anniversary of Academician Kemal Hanjalić’s Entering in Profession Marked and His 80th Birthday Celebrated
On Tuesday, 17 September 2019, at the Academy of Sciences and Arts of BiH, on the occasion of celebrating the 55th anniversary of entering in profession and 80th birthday of Academician Kemal Hanjalić, a Reception was organized Academician’s with colleagues, associates and friends.
Academician Hanjalić’s colleagues from abroad who are participating in the ECCOMAS 2019 (The European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences) Conference, 18-20 September 2019, where a mini symposium will be dedicated to academician Hanjalić’s jubilee attended the reception.
Academician Kemal Hanjalić is University of Sarajevo and Delft Technical University in the Netherlands Professor Emeritus. He was born in Sarajevo in 1939, where he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 1964. He received his Master's Degree from the University of Birmingham and defended his doctoral thesis from fluid mechanics at the prestigious Imperial College of Science and Technology in London.
In addition to the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, he lectured as a full professor at the University of Erlangen in Nuremberg, the University of Technology, Michigan, United States, the University of La Sapienza in Rome, and at many prestigious universities around the world as a visiting lecturer (Imperial College of Science and Technology in London, University of Cambridge, University of California, University of Kyoto, University of Singapore, etc.).
Academician Hanjalić has also held various professional and social terms in office during his professional career: he was the Institute for Process Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Sarajevo director, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Dean, the Mayor of Sarajevo, the Minister of Science and Technological Development in the Republic Government, Yugoslav delegate to the Committee for Environment at the OECD in Paris. Professor Hanjalić is a full-time member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Royal Academy of Technical Sciences of the United Kingdom, a member of a number of scientific and professional associations in the US, Turkey, Switzerland, Japan, China and other countries. Professor Hanjalić has received numerous honors and awards for research.
