Conference of National Libraries of South East Europe Directors (SEENL) in Sofia
From 21 to 23 October 2019, the Conference of the Directors of National Libraries of Southeast Europe (SEENL) was held in Sofia in the “St. Cyril and Methodius” Library, on the topic “Handwritten Documentary Heritage in Collections of Southeastern European Libraries.”
The conference was attended by the directors of the national libraries of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia and Turkey.
National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina Director, Dr. Ismet Ovčina at the Conference gave a presentation on the Special Collections of the National and University Library of BiH. He also presented to the participants a part of the rich cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina, kept in the NUBBiH, a collection of manuscripts, books and individual papers, a collection of rare books, old, rare and especially valuable printed material, and a cartographic, graphic and music collection.
In addition to the conference program, participants were given a cultural program, in the form of tours of some of Sofia's landmarks, such as the Boyana Orthodox Medieval Church, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979, Vitosha National Park, Largo, a renowned architectural ensemble of the three buildings of socialist classicism, etc.
In addition to discussions and presentations, the Conference participants also adopted certain conclusions regarding digitization in the mentioned field and possible joint applications for international projects, which would place special emphasis on joint promotion of incunabula from the mentioned libraries. The National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina keeps in its collections four incunabulae, printed in Venice and Tubingen from 1455 to 1500, Tractatus trium quaestionum Wernera de Onsshusen; Compendium theologicae veritatis, Albertus Magnus; Historia Romana (Partes I-II), Appianus and Historiae Romanae decades/Marcus Antonius Sabellicus.
