The Coimbra Group, an association of European universities formed in the mid-1980s with the aim of encouraging and promoting mobility of students and teachers between different European universities, and the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo, organized the International Coimbra Group Summer School on European Multilingualism from 30 June to 6 July 2019. With the support of the Erasmus+ program, teachers from major international universities (Budapest, Edinburgh, Granada, Salamanca, Groningen, Wurzburg, Poitiers), who are members of the Coimbra Group, organized an intensive program on European multilingualism and cultural mediation studies with the aim of presenting innovative approaches in teaching foreign languages. During the summer school, lectures and workshops were also attended by professors of the Department of Romance, Department of Slavic Languages and Literature, Department of German Studies and Department of World Literature and Librarianship.

The program is specifically aimed at translating into several small groups, and the working languages were: French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish.

The Summer School also included a segment of workshops on language discovery, where students had the opportunity to learn about less used and less frequently taught languages, and their role in the world's cultural heritage. This workshop offers two workshops: on Greek and Hebrew.

The Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo and the Coimbra Group supported the policy of European multilingualism through the free participation of students in this summer school.
