17th Generation of ERMA program Graduates Promoted
On 27 October 2018, 20 MA graduates - the 17th generation of the European Regional Master Program in Democracy and Human Rights in South East Europe (ERMA) were promoted in Sarajevo. On this occasion, a new generation of students of this highly appreciated master program was also inaugurated.
The ceremony was started by Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector, H.E. Nicola Minasi, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to BiH, and Mr. Krassimir Nikolov, Head of the Section for Political and Economic Affairs (EU Delegation to BiH). The ceremony opening speech was delivered by H. E. Fernand de Varennes, UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues. Student representatives of 2017/2018 generation Ida Konjicija and Dino Pehlić shared their experience. Ena Bavčić addressed the attendees as representative of the ERMA Alumni Network (EAN), whereas studies co-directors: Prof. Drs. Marco Borraccetti, and Dino Abazović presented the report for 2017/2018 and announced the names of students whose theses were selected as the best in this academic year.
The event, which took place in the UNSA Ceremonial Hall, was attended by a large number of local and foreign diplomats, university professors, former and future ERMA program students, and their friends, family members and others.
To date, over 500 students have graduated from ERMA studies, mostly from the South East Europe, European Union, and beyond. Students will receive a double degree from the University of Sarajevo and University of Bologna.
The ERMA program was established by joint efforts of several universities in South East Europe and the European Union. Since 2000, the ERMA program has been funded by the European Union and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Italy through the AICS Agency. For five years, EU funding has been made through the Global Campus Network administered by the European Interuniversity Center for Human Rights and Democratization in Venice (EIUC). The total value of the funds allocated for this program so far has exceeded 8.5 million Euros.
