This two-day conference was opened by Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector who highlighted the quintessence of holding this scientific gathering and participation of most prominent botanists and biologists – Academician Redžić’s associates from Slovenia, Italy, Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia and entire Bosnia and Herzegovina.
40 scientific papers related to the specific, high values of nature of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Balkans and Southern Europe will be presented at the conference.
This international conference has been organized in order to gather scientists and experts from the area of research, monitoring and management of nature in Southern and Eastern Europe, from different social spheres. The conference aims to raise awareness of the natural values of this part of Europe and emphasize the need to link science and different policies within the decision-making process. A large number of countries in South and East Europe are in a state of social and economic transition. Current social processes mark the situation, including changes in the ecosystems’ structure and area, size, population health, and in genetic diversity. The need to document biodiversity, as well as changes in its condition, and the development of optimal management models, are the reasons behind organizing this Conference.
The conference was organized by the Center for Ecology and Natural Resources “Academician Sulejman Redžić” and the Center for Ichthyology and Fisheries, UNSA Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Sarajevo in cooperation with UG Fondeko. Thanks to Centrotrans as a sponsor, the conference will continue its scientific excursion in the Dolomite area complex around Konjic, Glavatičevo and Bjelašnica.
