Strengthening Capacity for (research and) Innovation at the University of Sarajevo
On Monday, 6 November 2023, the University of Sarajevo hosted an important panel within the Horizon Europe project Aerostream, which is implemented by a team from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Sarajevo. The event “Strengthening the capacity for (research and) innovation at the University of Sarajevo” brought together experts with the aim of providing an overview of current processes and policies related to science, research and development, as well as with the aim of discussing key steps to improve the innovation of UNSA.
The panel was opened by the director of the Research and Development Center of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Maja Arslanagić-Kalajdžić (UNSA Faculty of Economics), who presented the context and institutional position, as well as the progress made in the past five years. She pointed out that significant amounts were invested in the improvement of the university's research infrastructure. It was followed by a continuation through a panel discussion, which was moderated by Prof. Dr. Dušanka Bošković, UNSA Vice-Rector for Quality in which the following participated: M.Sci. Azemina Njuhović, Assistant Minister for Science (Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton), Prof. Dr. Iza Razija Mešević (UNSA Faculty of Law), Prof. Dr. Lejla Kapur Pojskić (Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology UNSA), and Prof. Dr. Lejla Turulja (UNSA Faculty of Economics).
The topics that were covered during the panel included the importance of support for science by institutions, primarily by the Canton of Sarajevo, and the effects that this support has on the economy and on a better quality of life in general. Also, the topics were the role of the Rulebook on intellectual property management at the University of Sarajevo, the experiences of the UNSA Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in patenting processes, as well as efforts in terms of improving innovation processes. In addition, development projects such as the Open Research Network, and the importance of the technology transfer office and the infrastructure registry for the progress of the university were also discussed.
