The 4th Joint Science Conference - Western Balkan Process JSC – WBP was held in Italy, Rome, from 30 May to 01 June 2018 that had been organized by the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Lincean Academy - Italian Academy of Sciences.
Representatives of national academies of science and arts, rector conferences, and distinguished researchers participated in the conference.
B-H representatives actively took part in the Process - this year, at the invitation of the German National Academy, academician Miloš Trifković (JSC - WBP Expert Group member), President of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Banja Luka Vice-Rector for International and interuniversity Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Biljana Antunović, and prominent BH scientists: Prof. Drs. Almir Maljević, Adnan Efendić and Erna Karalija.
This year's theme “The Path Is the Goal: Convergence, Cohesion and Cooperation in South East Europe.” At the conference were discussed concrete ways of providing support and creating equal opportunities young scientists and researchers from the Western Balkan countries to improve knowledge and skills in order to achieve and maintain scientific excellence. In this regard, the importance of starting a work of a separate research foundation created at the previous Balkan Research Foundation, as well as a discussion on how to improve co-operation for the purpose of economic and scientific convergence and cohesion was conducted. The chief idea is the Western Balkans Action Plan for Smart Growth. Prof. Dr. Adnan Efendić moderated the panel “Convergence and Cohesion in South East Europe” within which were discussed or as well as the convergence mechanisms and cohesion instruments for South East Europe. The conclusions of this panel will be presented at the political summit of the Western Balkans countries in London in July 2018.
