WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
The workshop will focus on modern modes of academic and professional communication through presentation skills and techniques in the English language. Oral presentations are considered important for students in academic settings, and especially for MA students, presenting their seminars and MA thesis research. At the same time, the ability to deliver a presentation in English fosters the ability to communicate in English - this is a requisite for international exchange academic programs - and it equips future young professionals with a transferable soft skill necessary for their future work.Preparing and delivering an oral presentation in a University class in the English language enhances:
- students’ communication skills in English which is a Lingua Franca
- students’ autonomy, critical thinking, and risk-taking
- students’ ability to practice presentations in a professional setting, which is a skill that is commonly required in various careers
Making an effective oral presentation is a skill that can be taught. This workshop concentrates exclusively on the skills students need to develop, to make the presentation process easier and the actual delivery organized, accurate, and effective. During the workshop, we will look at the content selection of a presentation, the visual aids used to support it, and the performance techniques. The theory will be supplemented with practical exercises.
