The Scientific-Popular Gathering "I Love Mathematics" Held

On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Sarajevo officially inaugurated the scientific-popular gathering "I Love Mathematics."
For the third consecutive year, this event is organized by the Association of Mathematicians of Sarajevo Canton and the Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. The significance of the project has also been recognized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science, which has extended its support.
“I congratulate you all on your choice. You have chosen the right path—the path of knowledge and exploration. I urge you to continue on this path and to direct your lives towards this field. I am certain that those who love mathematics also love people, life, and knowledge,” concluded his remarks Dean Professor Dr. Nusret Drešković of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Sarajevo.
“When we discuss mathematics, I can confidently say that it is not just a scientific discipline; it is much more than that. It is the means by which we describe natural phenomena and the way we think. It is the foundation of every technological advancement and innovation, as particularly evident in the age we inhabit: artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data processing shape our future. Anyone who remotely understands the necessity of this knows that it is inconceivable without mathematics,” emphasized the President of the Association of Mathematicians of Sarajevo Canton and regular professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Professor Dr. Esmir Pilav.
Participants were also addressed by Professor Dr. Zenan Šabanac, head of the Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, and Professor Dr. Lejla Smajlović, the coordinator of this year’s project "I Love Mathematics," who officially commenced today’s gathering.
