New Editions of the University of Sarajevo Oriental Institute Promoted
As part of the University of Sarajevo Solemn December Days, a promotion of new editions from the Oriental Institute was held on 19 December 2024, in the ceremonial hall of the University Rectorship.
The event began with remarks from the Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Dr. Naris Pojskić, who emphasized the role and significance of the Institute in advancing research at the University of Sarajevo. Subsequently, the 73rd issue of the journal Contributions to Oriental Philology was presented, a publication that has served for decades as one of the most important scientific periodicals in the field of Oriental philology in our region. Generations of researchers have published invaluable works within its pages, reflecting the richness of our cultural heritage. It was highlighted that Contributions to Oriental Philology is the oldest scientific journal of the University of Sarajevo and bears witness to the ongoing efforts of the Oriental Institute since 1950, despite the profound material losses of archival and manuscript holdings it suffered during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Dr. Madžida Mašić presented a selection of original scholarly articles, reviews, and critiques, while Dr. Muamer Hodžić introduced works in the realm of history and additional contributions. Following this, Dr. Dželila Babović spoke about the study of the Manuscript Collection in Oriental Languages held in Franciscan monasteries, madrassas, and tekkes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, authored by Dr. Madžida Mašić. The promotion concluded with the address by the author herself.
