Cooperation Enhancement between the Food Safety Agency of BiH and the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Sci. Sanin Tanković, Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Director, visited the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and held a meeting with Dean, Prof. Dr. Muhamed Smajlović.
The meeting focused on improving mutual collaboration, considering the challenges in the field of food safety that both institutions face. The University of Sarajevo Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is the only higher education institution dedicated to training veterinary professionals in Bosnia and Herzegovina and has significant opportunities for collaboration with the Food Safety Agency in various fields, including developing laboratory capacities for food analysis, participating jointly in international projects, educating scientific and professional staff, and exchanging results of scientific and professional research related to food safety.
The Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina coordinates the operations of the Network of Organizations in the field of food and animal feed safety, in which the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is also involved. Faculty staff, through the Agency, actively participate in the work of the scientific networks of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
Given that Director Tanković serves as the president of the Veterinary Faculty Council, the meeting with Dean Smajlović included discussions about organizing the First Session of this advisory body, as well as the necessity of intensifying activities towards the accreditation of the Veterinary Faculty.
Concluding that there is considerable potential for enhancing cooperation between the two institutions, the participants agreed that one of the forthcoming activities could be the joint organization of a special event in observance of International Food Safety Day.
