The Ambassador of Greece, H.E. Dimitrios Papandreou, visited the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina on December 17, 2020, where he met with director Dr. Ismet Ovčina and associates.
Dr. Ovčina introduced H. E. Papandreou with the current situation in NUBBiH, emphasizing the particularly successful cooperation with the National Library of Greece with which NUBBIH has a Cooperation Agreement.
On that occasion, the Embassy of Greece donated books for the funds of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina, among which are: Maria Callas, Greek Painting, Application to the Greek, Alexander the Great, World Literature, etc. On that occasion, the mutual desire to continue these activities was emphasized, including new donations of books and other materials.
A publication in Greek and a publication printed in Hebrew in Thessaloniki in 1564 are kept in the NUB. This publication is very rare and researchers believe that there are only 5-6 preserved copies in the world.
N.E. Dimitrios Papandreou signed the book of impressions of the Library, where he expressed the importance of developing cultural ties between the Hellenic Republic and BiH.
They also discussed the organization of a special exhibition that would be organized by the Greek Embassy in the premises of NUBBiH in the next few months, depending on epidemiological conditions.
Dr. Ismet Ovčina thanked for the visit and the gift and as a sign of that awarded the Letter of Thanks to H.E. Dimitrios Papandreou. Also, on this occasion, Dr. Ovčina awarded several titles from the rich publishing production of the Library.
